Registrations by Decade

This fine piece of work shows how many registrations we have by decade and is now displayed on the main Alumni Directory page. But I thought it might be worthwhile to add it here. Though the data may not be particularly interesting, it is updated every time the page is loaded. The image is actually being created in real-time. Yes, I’m easily amused and frankly, surprised I was able to figure out how to do it.

Save Your Favorite Class

A month or so ago, the capability to display a single class was added to the Alumni Directory, but it was somewhat hindered by annoying messages when using the back button afterwards. The solution to that issue has also now enabled the ability to save a single class display as a bookmark or favorite, including a logical name.

Just select your class from the pull-down list in the Alumni Directory, click submit, then save the page as a favorite or bookmark. Your class directory will automatically be generated every time you select that bookmark or favorite.

Alumni Basketball

Thanks to Tiffany Marvin Cotsonas for organizing the alumni basketball games last Saturday. There was a good turnout of players and spectators. Bill Lewis, Bill Burnett and Randy Luke from the Class of 1972 played. Here is a list of players: Paul Marvin ’00, Sam Weeche ’96, Shelly Sanchez ’02, Marty Aman ’78, Kyle Marvin, John Cotsonas ’91, Brian Miller ’00, Bill Doyle ’83, Kara Miller ’01, Nikki Sanchez ’00, Bob King ’00, Eric Alvito ’07, Josh Britt ’07, Erika Schnepf ’07, Ryan Aman ’07, Lamar Simpson ’06, Shawn Gillow ’05, Tiffany Cotsonas ’97, Brendan McCallum ’07, Kaitlin Hollenbeck ’07, Kara McCallum ’02, Bryan Tailee ’79, Ryan Gallo ’96, Adam Luke ’00, Tim McBride ’00, Jay Hannon ’03, Matt Luke ’07.

Lee Slocum ’58 was in attendance, but didn’t lace up the sneaks this year.

Sorry, if there were a few I missed. If you didn’t make this one, another event is planned for next year.

Back to Normal?

I think most of the major problems that occurred as a result of a server upgrade are fixed. If you observe any strange errors or problems, let me know.

If you attempted to register here in the last few days, and nothing was happening, please try again. The registration system is now working properly.

Wayne Wrestling Alumni Night

The annual Alumni Night for Wayne Wrestling is Thursday December 20th. Wayne is hosting Geneva. JV is at 6PM and Varsity starts at 7PM. Be sure to be there by 7 to take part in the Alumni festivities, including a group photo. I guess it’s not a surprise, since it was published in the WC Mail, but Steve Azzano and Joe Molino will be inducted into the Wayne Wrestling Hall of Fame.

Home Page Update

Been busy the last couple of days making a significant update to our home page. The new Alumni News and Info section is created using the Blog software that is used for the site weblog. Each new posting has a title, date and time submitted, submitters name, and capabilities for comments. The latest listings appear towards the top, and are ordered by dates in descending order. These are separate from the site weblog, the site weblog will continue.

The right sidebar now has a calendar and search form for finding old news items. I’ve only added a few existing news items in the new format, so older news items are gone. But they should be preserved now and into the future (theoretically).

It was quite a drastic change, so there may be some glitches. I will correct them as I find them. Once it is working smoothly, the next task will to try and merge two separate login schemes so that registered users can submit Alumni News and Info items.

Uploading Images

I have been working on a way for users to upload files. It is intended mostly for pictures, etc, but could be utilized for other things. So I’d like to have some people try it out, with the expectation that all may not go smoothly, because frankly, I’m over my head. But it worked OK for me the last few times, so why not. Click here if you have any pictures for your listing or anything else that could be used here.

Barb Gregory ’72 Honored

[DENVER] The Numismatic Literary Guild (NLG) has presented its highest honor to Barbara J. Gregory (Class of ’72), editor-in-chief of NUMISMATIST, the American Numismatic Association’s (ANA) monthly magazine. Awarded on August 17, 2006, during the ANA World’s Fair of Money®, the coveted “Clemy” annually recognizes an individual who embodies the attributes of Clement Bailey, an NLG founder who was known for his literary talent and sense of humor.
The 39th recipient and 6th woman so honored by the NLG, Gregory joined the NUMISMATIST staff in 1981 and was appointed editor in 1988 by the ANA Board of Governors. She is the first woman to hold the title in the magazine’s 119-year history, tying ANA founder George F. Heath for the second-longest tenure in the position.
A 1972 graduate of Wayne Central High School and a 1976 graduate of Alfred University in Alfred, New York, Gregory earned a bachelor’s degree in English. She worked as a medical illustrator and editor at the University of Rochester (NY) before moving to Colorado Springs. She has received the ANA’s Presidential Award and in 2004 was named a Numismatic Ambassador by NUMISMATIC NEWS, a national hobby publication. That same year, Alfred University presented her an Alumni Citation for Distinctive Career Achievements and Avocational Pursuits.
