Yes, check your calendars! It HAS been 5 years already and we’re looking forward to seeing you again! We’ve got loads of fun planned for the August 2nd & 3rd weekend so make your plans to join us!

Lagoner’s has live music Friday nites, specializes in hard cider/wine tastings, full cash bar and have a “lite eats” bar menu available. If we get 50 people they’ve agreed to close it for us to have a private party. So get your reservation into us soon!

Saturday, Aug. 3 – Cookout @ Bill Dixon’s – 3689 S Main Street, Marion, NY

3:00 – BYOB happy hour – music/Wayne reminiscing

we will have snacks, non-alcoholic drinks and ice available but feel free to bring what you like.

6:00 dinner followed by bonfire, More Music and Fun!

Bring lawn chairs for the bonfire !

Our catered cookout features 3 meats -Roast Beef, Turkey, Pork Loin,

Sides of Salt Potatoes, Pasta, Corn on the Cob, Sauerkraut, Barbeque sauce, Relish Tray, Fruit Tray, Tossed salad w/dressings, Dinner Rolls/butter, Brownies & Cookies. Coffee will be available.

  • If you can’t make it to the reunion and would like a copy of the booklet/class directory, send $7 check made out to Pam Pendleton and we’ll mail one to you.
  • We had so much fun on the cruise for our 40th that we’re looking into doing either a cruise or resort stay as part of our 50th. If you’re interested check the box on the reservation portion along with your email address so we can contact you with info as the time grows near. The more people going, the better group rate we can get. If you have friends that would like to join us, we’ll gladly make them Honorary Class of 74’s! You would have a year prior to the sail date to pay for the cruise. Usually you put a down payment (up to 50% of the total cost) then the balance several months prior to the actual date.

Class of 1969 50 year Reunion!!!! Wayne Football to Play For Class B Championship

Wayne defeated Livonia 24-21 on Saturday in the semi-finals and will face Batavia in the championship game.  My info says the game will be Saturday Nov. 3, 8PM at St. John Fisher College, but check an official source.

1970 Eagle

I scored a 1970 Eagle on eBay and got it today to add to my small collection.  When I get one of these, I always wonder who owned it originally.  No names, no other signings.  Oh well, sounds like something I would do.

I hope to get at least some of this scanned and posted on the website.  Though it may not be quick as I’ll probably have to spend night late nights to find the time.  But what a great group of Wayne Alumni!

Lieutenant Robert S. Witt

I was thinking about one of my neighbors growing up on N. Slocum Road.  Bob was 8 years older than me, and a year older than my oldest brother, Tom.  He graduated from Wayne in 1966.

I had just started my new job and heard about this on the radio, and recall exactly where I was that day in September 1976. He was not a crew member on this flight, just catching a ride to another base, as were many of the passengers. Another fatality on this flight was from Marion, NY. Bob had a young wife and children, was just getting started in life and probably was headed for a long career in the Air Force. I found this image of a memorial that someone has erected near the crash site at a remote area in eastern Michigan.

I’ll always remember him as the big brother of the neighborhood.

Wayne Alumni in Pro Sports

In addition to being a good basketball player, Chris Collins also played pro soccer in the NASL with the Dallas Tornadoes and in the MISL

He was among the initial inductees in to the Wayne Central Soccer Hall of Fame.  There were no All Greater Rochester teams selected for soccer in 1974.

Blankenberg 2018 AGR 1st Team Selection

Congratulations to Logan Blankenberg for being a 2018 First Team selection in the D & C All Greater Rochester basketball team.

There was a mistake in their write-up however.  It was not the first time a Wayne player was selected to the first team.  Chris Collins was a first team selection in 1974.

I pointed out the error to the authors and the Wayne Athletic director.
