Website Updates

Some rather minor changes to the Registration system have been completed, mostly for my own amusement. What was formerly a single field on the form “Location”, has now been broken up into “City”, “State”, and “Country”. For the most part, existing locations were transferred as they were. For consistency and space savings sake, US states and Canadian provinces will have the official USPS abbreviations.

These fields are still optional. You can leave City empty, and just include a State. Since 99% of our alumni are located in the U.S. or Canada, the Country field is only for alumni living out of the U.S. (or Canada).

When the Alumni Directory is displayed, it essentially looks the same. City, State, and Country still make up Location. Consistency and flexibility are the only reason for the change.

Also, the ability to link directly to your Facebook profile has been removed, at least temporarily. The process of determining your Facebook ID and name was often completed unsuccessfully, and Facebook complicated things by coming up with a new method for more recent Facebook users. If I get time, I’ll look at this again and see if it makes sense to try and make this feature available again.

New Website Look

Made some changes to the site design. Nothing too major, though there may be a few glitches over the next few days, as well as some further tweaks. Overall, everything should work the same.

Frankie Urbanik

A photo of Frankie Urbanik taken at last weeks Wayne basketball game. I doubt there is any other person, except maybe Bernie Porray, who has attended more Wayne Central sporting events over the years.

Thanks to Danny and Andrea May for the photo.

Cory English ’85 on TV Tonight

Sorry for short notice, but I’ve heard Cory English ’85 will be performing during the Broadcast of the Kennedy Center Honors tonight. Look for him as Igor from Young Frankenstein in the tribute to Mel Brooks. Should be 9PM EST on CBS, but check local listings.

Class of 1980 Takes the Lead

/class_counts.php

Since I’ve been keeping track of the number of alumni registrations by class, which has been 4 or 5 years, the Class of 1991 has been either 1st or tied for first. They finally have been overtaken. The Class of 1980 now has the most alumni registrations with 75!

Girls Volleyball Wins Sectional Title

Congratulations to the Girls Volleyball Team for winning the Section V Class B Championship. They defeated Livonia who had beat Wayne in two close matches during the regular season.

Some Soccer Sectional Results and More

After defeating a strong HF-L team 2-1 in the quarterfinal game, the Boys Soccer team lost to Aquinas 1-0 on a penalty kick in the Class A semi-final game. After starting tentatively for the first 15 minutes or so, they played Aquinas fairly evenly the rest of the game. A good showing against what is essentially an all-star team.

The Girls Soccer team lost to HF-L in the quarter finals. Girls Volleyball is still competing, I believe after winning the league championship.

Cross Country sectionals are coming up this weekend. Both the boys and girls have good chances to do well in the team standings.
