Class of 74 Golf Outing

If anyone from the Class of 74 is planning to play golf on Sept. 20 during the 50th Reunion weekend, please contact Rick Lang ASAP so he can get a count and make plans at OGC.

Wayne 2024 Winter AGR Awards

The 2024 All Greater Rochester Awards are out, and Wayne figured prominently in Boys basketball. Cameron Blankenberg was selected Player of the Year, and PJ Ostrowski was also selected to the team. Bill Thomson was selected as Coach of the Year.

Leah Burke was also selected for Girls bowling.

Wayne Boys Basketball to Play for State Championship in Class A

The Wayne boys basketball team defeated Friends Academy 61 – 48 in the semi-final game to advance to the Class A State Championship game. They will play Glens Falls at 5:15 PM on Saturday March 16.

There is also a watch party planned at K2 Brothers Brewing (former Freewill Elementary School).

Wayne Boys Basketball Wins Class A!

The Wayne Boys basketball won the Section V Class A sectional title this evening, defeating East High 48-43 at the Blue Cross Arena. They finished the season at 22 wins and 2 losses, with both losses being at a tournament in Florida in December. They were undefeated against Section V teams.

Bill Thomson Named Class A and Finger Lakes East Boys Basketball Coach of the Year

Wayne Central School District is proud to announce that Bill Thomson has been awarded the Class A Tom Downey Coach of the Year in Section V for the second time and also the Finger Lakes East Boys Basketball Coach of the Year for the sixth time in his coaching career. The honors bestowed upon him by his coaching peers recognize Thomson’s outstanding dedication and achievements in guiding the Wayne Central School District boys basketball team to excellence. Thomson has coached boys basketball at Wayne Central School District for an impressive 33 years, with 22 years dedicated to coaching at the varsity level.

Bill Thomson’s coaching success is anchored in his commitment to building strong connections with players, emphasizing rapport, and working to enhance their individual and team performance. Motivated by a desire to see his players surpass their expectations, Thomson’s coaching philosophy revolves around achieving higher levels of success, instilling teamwork, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement. His unwavering dedication to these principles has not only molded successful athletes but has also significantly contributed to the positive development of the entire Wayne High School Basketball Program.

The Class A Coach of the Year recognition was celebrated at the Section V Coaches Banquet on Thursday, February 29, at the Rochester Institute of Technology Conference Center. Thomson’s peers and colleagues gathered to honor his exceptional coaching achievements and contributions to the basketball community.

Wayne Central School District extends its heartfelt congratulations to Bill Thomson on this well-deserved accolade and looks forward to continued success under his leadership in the years to come.
