To the best of my knowledge, Wayne Central does not have a basketball Hall of Fame. I believe Soccer and Wrestling do, and I’m not sure if there are any others. I don’t believe either of those Halls of Fame are officially sanctioned by the school district, which is OK, I doubt they usually are.

I would like to see a Hall of Fame for Wayne Basketball one day. I know it would take someone to get it off the ground. I don’t think that person is me.

When I started this website, a couple of times I called Bernie Porray and visited him at his home. We talked about many things. No one has watched more Wayne Central Basketball games than Bernie. Knowing Bernie was advanced in age, whether a Hall of Fame was in the future or not, I asked him to make a list of players he thought were worthy. I’m not sure, but I think I asked him at my first visit, and he scribbled down some names and gave it to me on the next visit. Unfortunately, he only gave me names for a boys team. But it is better than nothing. This was probably 1999 or so, I’m not sure. I know he passed away shortly afterward.

I’m not sure what year he stopped attending games, but I have a list of names from Bernie. If anyone wants to start a Wayne Basketball Hall of Fame, maybe I can at least pass along Bernie’s list.

So after many years of putting it off, I finally found time to update the basketball website. Essentially I have completed converting all of the existing content. I was able to add missing content for a few teams, mostly creating a page with a team photo.

Once that is done I will try again to see if I can begin filling in the blanks as time permits. I expect I can get info for the 2000s – present. Going back further presents some challenges.

It has been a while in the making, but I am in the process of converting 22 year old html to a WordPress site. Still have more pages to do. Not really adding much new content at the moment, just focusing on converting the existing pages.

Once completed, will try to update the missing teams, if the information can be located.

Currently have converted all the Girls teams that had content (up to approx. 2002).

Boys teams are updated through 1999. 2000s still need to be converted. Teams after 2002 need to be documented as information is acquired.
