Congratulations to Cameron Blankenberg for being named to the All Greater Rochester First Team and being selected the Player of the Year to two years straight.

Also congrats to Aiden Twist for being selected the the 2nd team!

Long term records sports records for Wayne have not been meticulously maintained, but these two are pretty clear. Cameron Blankenberg scored 46 points on January 3, 2025 to set an all-time one game scoring record. The previous record of 44 points was held by Lee Slocum, set in 1958. That was a record that stood for a very long time.

Then on January 7, 2025, Cameron Blankenberg set the record for the most points in a career for Varsity Boys Basketball. I don’t have the actual number yet, but well over 1000 points. Not clear who he passed, but may have been one of his older brothers, or Sam Weech . And he’s only half-way through his Junior year.

The 2024 AGR Awards are out, and Wayne figured prominently. Cameron Blankenberg was selected Player of the Year, and PJ Ostrowski was also selected for the team. Bill Thomson was selected as Coach of the Year. Congratulations!

Sad news, former Wayne Central boys varsity basketball coach, Edward Joseph has passed. He coached Wayne from 1961 – 1965, including 1964 when Wayne finished 18 – 1, losing to Waterloo in the sectional finals.
